GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) is a diploma program designed to close the gap between the need and supply of nurses in India. In a vast country like India, nurse positions are plentiful. The income and opportunities for students who complete the GNM Course are pretty appealing. GNM course train students to become nurses in community or medical institutions. GNM nurses practice in a niche segment like maternity care, post-trauma, rehabilitation, mental care, data collection, etc.

What is a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)
General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is a 3.5-year diploma programme in nursing. Students who want to pursue a GNM diploma can do so after passing the Science stream in class 12. The three-and-a-half-year programme includes a six-month internship requirement. GNM diploma holders can begin their careers working at government or private hospitals and clinics.
The main eligibility criteria to pursue a GNM Nursing course in India are listed below.
- Students must have completed their 10+2 from the Science stream, with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects.
- Also, candidates should have obtained at least 50% marks in their qualifying exams. Some of the top medical colleges offering GNM Nursing courses ask for 60% marks.
- They must also have obtained the minimum number of marks required in their GNM Nursing Entrance Exam Result.
